In short
- A Meta campaign reached 153,051 people, generated 2,210 clicks and achieved a CPC of €0.30 with UGC videos.
- UGC stands out for its authenticity, emotion and ability to generate trust, conversions and interaction.
- AI can support scripts, analysis, automation or clips, but the main execution should remain human.

In 2026, the battle between AI-generated videos and UGC content is more intense than ever… or so some people insist on saying (people who work on LinkedIn selling AI). While Artificial Intelligence promises speed, scalability and low costs, the results show that real content —the kind created by people for people— is still what converts, retains and connects the most.
The latter is undeniable, no matter how much those with “AI Automation Manager Expert CEO” on their LinkedIn profile try to sell you a dream.

Case study: UGC video vs AI video
And we’re not saying this based solely on intuition or trends: real campaign data speaks for itself. In a recent test we conducted at HICARI on Meta (Instagram + Facebook), a campaign with UGC videos reached 153.051 people, generated 2.210 clicks and achieved a CPC of just 0,30€, while the AI-generated version managed only 522 clicks with a CPC of 1,89€. Same product, same budget, different video approach. The result of the match was clear: UGC 4 – AI 0.

| Aspect | UGC Videos | AI Videos |
|---|---|---|
| Emotion | High | Low |
| Retention | 3x higher | Medium |
| Credibility | Very high | Very Low |
| Cost per click (CPC) | 0,30€ | 1,89€ |
| Organic engagement | High | Almost none |
But why does this happen? Grab yourself a good (specialty) coffee while we explain the 8 key reasons why human content is still winning the game.

AI Videos vs Real Videos with UGC
1. Authenticity: brands aren’t looking for perfection, they’re looking for connection (UGC 1 – AI 0)
Consumers trust content generated by other users more than content published directly by brands—that’s the foundation—and people perceive UGC as real, spontaneous and human, while AI videos may be flawless (let me question that)… but emotionally empty.
A perfect face or a generated voice doesn’t convey imperfection, empathy or credibility. Authenticity sells because it connects, and that connection remains impossible to automate. Brands aren’t looking for perfection, they’re looking for connection. And that comes from a real person sharing their experience.
Here’s an AI-made video that attempts to simulate a UGC video:
- It looks like a robot, with unnatural movements
- Perfect face that tries, unsuccessfully, to simulate imperfection
- They don’t have real accents
- The clothing looks computer-generated and fake
- The background is as fake as the model
- It doesn’t convey anything
2. Conversion and performance (UGC 2 – AI 0)
UGC doesn’t just work organically; it also performs much better in paid media, especially in social ads (TikTok, Meta, YouTube Shorts). UGC Ads have higher click-through rates (CTR) and much lower acquisition costs (CPA). In Meta Ads campaigns, UGC videos achieve CTRs between 1,5% and 3%, while AI-generated ads barely reach 0,8%.
In practice, with only a slightly higher budget, UGC video can generate up to four times more results. This is because users don’t perceive this content as a direct sales pitch, but as a recommendation or a genuine opinion. Genuine. Repeat this with me: R-E-A-L.
There is one exception: you can make one or two clips for your video. AI can help you with that and might enrich the video, but not the entire video with AI.
In our new UGC 2.0 concept, we use AI to create an impossible clip, add it to the video and, ultimately, give the video a touch of super-production value—but always alongside a human face.
3. The algorithm also prefers human content (UGC 3 – AI 0)
Social platforms —Meta, TikTok, YouTube, even LinkedIn— prioritize content that generates genuine engagement. When they detect synthetic patterns (generated faces, artificial movements, cloned voices), they reduce organic reach and may even limit ad delivery. And this is going to get worse as new platform policies and government regulations come into force. AI videos are booming because of their novelty, but their reach will be very limited in the near future.
This translates into fewer views, lower CTR and a much higher cost per result. UGC videos, on the other hand, look like “native content,” not ads, which makes people watch them all the way through.
YouTube has launched tools for creating video clips, but limits monetization for full videos made with AI. This is the first step toward soon directly reducing their visibility or not allowing them at all. Instagram “forces” you to label them as generated by Artificial Intelligence. Who will want to join a social network filled with AI-generated content?
4. Human storytelling has no substitute (UGC 4- AI 0)
An AI video can showcase a product perfectly, but it cannot tell a story, show it naturally, or simulate a real reaction. A real creator can convey emotion, personal experiences, natural expressions and micro-gestures that trigger immediate empathy.
AI can possibly write a script better than you can, but it does not know what it feels like to say it on camera. Nor does it know how to make a coffee while telling a story naturally.
Example: an AI video shows a digital model applying a cream without any context. A real creator, on the other hand, shows how the product has worked for her, laughs, improvises, stumbles over her words and shows her skin without a filter. The second triples the completion rate and doubles the conversion rate. The difference lies in the emotion.
5. Impact on SEO and brand positioning (UGC 5 – AI 0)
Human content does not just win on social media; it also strengthens SEO and digital authority. Google, following its updates (SGE and Helpful Content), places greater value on content created by real people and “penalizes” content generated automatically or at scale.
An UGC video can improve time spent on page and increase engagement on the channels where it is embedded. AI content, by contrast, tends to be generic and lack signals of experience, expertise and trustworthiness. Google’s famous EAT, which rewards truthfulness and trust.
6. Consumer perception has changed (UGC 6 – AI 0)
The public can now easily tell the difference between a video made with AI and one recorded by a person.
A recent KPMG study (2025) indicates that 54% of users would not trust AI-generated content. In other words, more than 50% of the users who see your ad will not trust it… and you still think throwing money at the video and ad is a good idea?
Today’s consumer looks for closeness, transparency, identity and purpose. If they perceive automation or artifice, they switch off. That is why even major brands that had invested in AI in 2025 are returning to UGC content.
7. Price and scalability (UGC 6 – AI 1)
For a long time, UGC was considered difficult to scale. But UGC platforms like HICARI have changed the game. Brands can now request personalized videos from different creators, in a variety of styles, languages and formats, without sacrificing authenticity and at low cost. This makes it possible to scale paid campaigns or organic content quickly while preserving the human essence.
Even so, AI is always cheaper, and this is its only advantage and what makes it attractive to marketers.
- UGC video cost ranges from €60 to €180 per video on HICARI.
- AI video costs between €3 and €20 per video on any website (keep in mind that you will need quite a few clips and will have to run many tests before finding the perfect touch)
8. Brand building (UGC 7 – AI 1)
AI videos can be a very tempting tool because of their low cost, and yes, in this case, cutting costs can prove very expensive for companies and brands, potentially damaging their reputation. UGC creators, by contrast, bring faces, emotions and authenticity that strengthen brand positioning.

Use AI videos to create clips for your video, but not entire videos

AI should not be seen as an enemy of human content, but as a support tool. You can use it to:
- Get inspiration for the script or hook (remember, get inspired—don't copy it exactly)
- It can help you analyse data
- Generate insights
- Automate tasks
But the execution—the camera, the voice, the story—should remain human. Brands are building hybrid strategies: AI for efficiency and supporting content, UGC for emotion. And that balance is what really converts.
| Aspect | UGC | AI-generated videos |
|---|---|---|
| Authenticity | High: showcases real people and real experiences. | Low: may be perceived as artificial or generic. |
| Consumer trust | 90% trust content from other users more (Nielsen). | 55–65% of users distrust AI-generated content (KPMG). |
| Conversion rate | Average CTR: 1.5–3%; CVR up to +30%. | Average CTR: 0.8–1%; lower CVR. |
| Cost | Low (from €350/month with 3–6 videos). | Very low (from €5-15/video). Variable, depending on tools or licences. |
| Turnaround | Fast (2–7 days). | Instant, but requires subsequent editing. |
| Engagement | High: generates comments and shares. | Low: perceived as automated content. |
| Adaptability | Multi-purpose: Ads, social media, PDPs, SEO. | Limited to certain formats and channels. |
| Brand image | Approachable, human, trustworthy. | Technological, but cold or impersonal. |
| Risk of rejection | Low. | High: many users skip ads if they perceive AI. |
| Ideal for | Performance campaigns, social media, websites, branding. | Video clips, quick tests, automated content or prototypes. |

If you still have doubts…
What's better for my brand: UGC or AI-generated videos?
Can consumers really tell when a video is made with AI?
Can I combine AI videos and UGC in the same strategy?
In marketing, the human element always wins
This is a debate I've had with my business partner, who often tells me: I've seen AI videos that didn't look like AI… And yes, AI-generated content will continue to evolve and will be part of the future, but it won't replace human authenticity.
Users aren't looking for perfection; they're looking for connection. For a story to be told, for someone to react naturally, imperfection creates empathy.
And in a world saturated with synthetic content, what's real is what stands out. UGC doesn't just win on results; it wins on trust, credibility and relevance. That's why brands that choose to work with real creators today are building a huge competitive advantage for the digital marketing of the years ahead. But this is already happening across all sectors, where handmade, artisanal products are gaining more and more importance and value.
